Green Day（綠日樂隊）是90年代以後最受歡迎的搖滾樂隊之一，也是美國流行樂朋克復興中最有影響的樂隊之一。《21st Century Breakdown》是他們的第八張專輯，這張專輯更獲得2010年格萊美最佳搖滾專輯。這次專輯的音樂風格加入一些經典搖滾，較遍向強力流行樂。專輯主題主要圍繞宗教、戰爭、愛及社會問題。整張專輯共有十六首歌曲，被分為三部分"Heroes and Cons"， "Charlatans & Saints"以及"Horseshoes & Hand grenades"。這次專輯內有兩位虛構的主人公Christian (Josh Boswell飾演) and Gloria (Lisa Stelly飾演)，專輯的封面便是男女主角在親吻。
專輯的第二波主打單曲《21 Guns》不但被電影《變形金剛2》收錄，更推出了一支MV。MV由著名導演Marc Webb執導，專輯的虛構男女主角也會在MV中出現。MV的故事發生在洛杉磯一家汽車旅館。這對小情侶在經歷槍林彈雨之後，安然走出旅館，並將《21st Century Breakdown》的專輯封面再現。而眼尖的歌迷更發現MV中有一幕，汽車旅館牆上的一些字，其實是Green Day另一首歌曲《See The Light》的歌詞。既憂鬱又深沉的吉他聲，讓搖滾迷們激動不已，難怪Green Day可以憑藉《21 Guns》在美國紐約電臺的第26屆MTV音樂電視獎頒獎典禮上，獲得最佳搖滾錄影帶獎。
